“My Favorite Memory of LSUS is…”

Let's celebrate your favorite LSUS experience!

The LSUS Office of University Development invites you to participate in our 40th Anniversary Celebration Essay Contest by submitting an essay describing your favorite memory of LSUS.

Here are a few guidelines:

• Essays should not exceed 1,000 words in length.
  

• Include your name, maiden name (if applicable), address, phone number, and email address on a cover sheet. These will not be included in the word count.

• Include the approximate date of the occurrence.

• Essays will be classified by date of decade:
  • 1967 – 1976
  • 1977 – 1986
  • 1987 – 1996
  • 1997 – 2007

• Describe a favorite memory that occurred while you were an LSUS student or a faculty or staff member. We want drama! What memory was most dramatic, humorous, or inspirational? Did it involve a particular class, professor, or student? Think “funny,” “life-changing,” “career-oriented,” or “friendships.” We will value your essay no matter what your particular experience at LSUS!

• Essays may also be emailed to susie.stinson@lsus.edu (Please refer to LSUS 40th Anniversary Celebration Essay Contest in the subject line) or dropped off at our office (ADMN 262). A winner will be chosen from each decade and will be included in the compilation of the history of our first 40 years. Some will likely be featured in a future edition of LSUS Magazine. In addition, each winning essay will be displayed at our 40th Anniversary Celebration Dinner/Reception in September 2007.

LSUS 40th Anniversary Photo Contest

Deadline for Entries: September 12, 2007

There will be a winner in each category and one overall “Best Photo”. Limit two entries per person. Amateur and professional photographers are welcome to enter contest. Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photographs that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, adjustments to color and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified.

A digital photo sent on a disc is preferred. The disc should be labeled with name, address, phone number, a title for the photo and category for entry. A short description about the photo may be included. Photos must be less than 1megabite in size and may be e-mailed to media@lsus.edu.

Prints must be 4 x 6 inches or 5 x 7 inches and must be in color. Do not send negatives. Attach a label to the back of each print with your name, address, telephone number, a title for the photo and category. Do not write on the photo itself.

Winning photos may be displayed at the 40th anniversary celebration. Participants agree to allow selected photographs, along with the name and city of residence, to be published in all LSUS-related publications.

LSUS 40th Anniversary Research Symposium

As part of the 40th Anniversary Celebration, the Louisiana State University in Shreveport is organizing a LSUS Student Research Poster Symposium, to showcase the outstanding quality and diversity of student research at LSUS.

The Symposium will be held in September in LSUS University Center Ballroom.

We invite undergraduate and graduate students and their mentors to participate by submitting a research poster. Any student involved in research at LSUS is encouraged to submit a poster for this event. A booklet with poster abstracts will be distributed at the symposium.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out the Poster Symposium Form. Electronic submissions of abstracts (using the sign-up form) are due by September 1, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.
